There Is No Limit to How You Can Cook Cod
Not only is cod mandatory at Christmas, it is part of the menu all year round.
During the last Christmas in 2015, the Norge, cod brand of Norway, conducted a survey on four thousand Portuguese families, to know which recipes of cod meet the preferences of the Portuguese. This was the result:
1. Bacalhau à Brás (23,4% of the votes)
This popular dish is made with shredded cod and crisp straw that will sear in a sauté onion and then are put in egg in the frying pan. Finally, it takes olives and chopped parsley to complete the dish.
2. Bacalhau assado no forno (16,2%)
This dish can be cooked in many ways, more usually cod is cooked with olive oil and white wine and onion sauce being accompanied by boiled potatoes.
3. Bacalhau com natas (8,7%)
One of the tastiest ways to eat this fish, and perhaps the most calorie rich with cream, onions and sliced potatoes and is cooked in the oven.
4. Bacalhau assado na brasa (8,1%)
In general is served well roasted and poured olive oil.
5. Bacalhau cozido (6,4%)
This is the simplest way to cook cod and the most typical christmas dish in Portugal. Usually is accompanied by potatoes and cooked vegetables.
6. Bacalhau à Gomes de Sá (6,1%)
This is one of the cod recipes that goes into the oven, and is served by layers. It takes braised onion, cod, potatoes cut into cubes and slices of egg, all cooked, also olives and chopped fresh parsley to "spruce up".
7. Arroz de bacalhau (2,4%)
The cod goes well with anything and rice is no exception. One of the greatest leaders of our rank , VÃtor Sobral makes a cod rice to eat and cry for more.
8. Açorda de bacalhau (2,1%)
Cod in one of the dishes that most defines Alentejo flavors, the bread soup. This is a substance dish made with bread, water, garlic and coriander.
9. Bacalhau à Braga (1,8%)
This traditional recipe of Braga takes baked cod with braised onions and peppers and slices of fried potato.
10. Bacalhau à Lagareiro (1,7%)
This is a traditional dish of Beira Litoral which consists of cod baked on the grill , drizzled with olive oil and garlic and accompanied by baked potatoes and greens.

The Portuguese are the largest cod lovers worldwide, consuming on average 10 kg a year per capita. Cod is the most consumed fish in Portugal, especially during the months of November and December.
